Albany Centre Newsletter Winter 2016

We are half way through the year and winter is upon us. We have definitely noticed the colder nights and the wetter days as we head into our winter months. Please be mindful of this and make sure you have packed plenty of spare clothes in your child’s bag. During the winter months we encourage the children to try and explore outside as much as possible. It helps to keep the bugs at bay and fresh air is always beneficial to the children’s health and well-being. To support these aspects of our day, we require children to have warm clothes. Layering their outfits is helpful as they can take off some of the layers as the day warms up. A raincoat and gumboots are also very helpful as it encourages playtime outside, with the right clothing. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!

As always, we have plenty to share in our newsletter so be sure to click the link below to open it.

Children’s Day 2016

WOW! Children’s Day 2016 was our third Children’s Day and we think it was our biggest and best yet. The event took place over two days, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April at the ASB Showgrounds, and to see you all having such a great time with your families showed us that we accomplished all that we intended to.

On both days, the atmosphere was overflowing with joy and happiness. Families were lining up an hour prior to the event starting and once we opened those doors, there was nothing quite like witnessing the gasps of excitement and wide eyes of the children as they entered Children’s Day and were overwhelmed with where to begin.

The happiness was infectious. There was an abundance of things to do, many of the families headed straight for the free candy floss and popcorn because let’s be honest, you can’t really go past it.

In terms of entertainment, Children’s Day had performances from a magician, various dancing schools, lion dancing, and Mainly Music were doing regular music sessions.

We even had a visit from the ever popular Sid from Ice Age who was giving out plenty of cuddles and high-fives.

The petting zoo was (as always) a favourite among the littles ones. As they patted, nuzzled and feed the little animals.

From the bouncy castles and mini jeeps, to the ferris wheel and giant inflatable slides, AND all the rides in between – there certainly wasn’t a shortage in attractions.

Children even had the chance to decorate their own cookies with a little help from Elsa and Auna from Frozen.

Among the entertainment for parents was of course the variety of stalls Children’s Day facilitated, majority of which had special deals exclusive for Children’s Day event attendees.

There were delectable treats, a huge range of toys, resources, and children wear. Almost anything child-related you could think of was available at the stalls at Children’s Day.

There was also free face-painting which allowed the children to run wild with their imaginations!

Thank you to everyone who attended our event, we truly hope you had a wonderful time with your family.

Our Eggcellent Easter Open Day!

We have been very excited to introduce everyone to our new Lighthouse early learning centre and that’s exactly what we did at our Lighthouse Easter Open Day!

This open day was like no other, with plenty of fun activities that had the children (and parents) smiling all day long.

Upon arrival, a giant Spiderman bouncy castle greeted parents and their little ones outside, commencing the excitement and inviting them for a turn at bouncing! It was clear to see that the children were in for a full day of fun and they hadn’t even stepped inside the centre yet!

After some very Easter bunny-appropriate hopping on the bouncy castle, the children were overwhelmed with all sorts of activities inside. As the schedule had it, the day began with Easter crafts!

The children were able to get in touch with their creative sides as they made gorgeous little Easter cards or adorable pet rocks while their parents looked around our fantastic facilities. The centre boasts three spacious rooms, each abundant with toys, activities, books, learning materials, crafts, and one of our rooms even has a pet budgie! The centre also has three large imagination-provoking outdoor areas containing sandpits, great playgrounds, and water play activities.

Perhaps one of the most exciting and unique activities was the cupcake making. The children had the opportunity to decorate and consume their very own and delicious cupcakes. There’s nothing quite like seeing the enchanted face of a child who has created something that they are proud of, and we were lucky enough to see this expression time and time again at the cupcake table!

In between activities the little ones could get their faces painted, with the most popular request being Easter bunnies! The joy this gave the children was priceless and they gleamed with delight when they looked in the mirror to see a little furry friend on their cheek!

No Easter celebration would be complete without an Easter egg hunt and the children were absolutely eggcellent at finding the Easter eggs! The Easter egg hunt saw the children search high and low as they discovered the Easter eggs. The children then proclaimed their victories as they excitedly showed their newfound chocolate treasures to their parents.

We finished off both our morning and afternoon sessions with a captivating story during story time. The little ones sat intently as one of our wonderful teachers enthusiastically shared a story with the children. This was a lovely way to end the sessions and left the children and parents content and satisfied with the day.

We would like to thank all of you who attended our Easter open day, especially those of you who brought along friends and neighbours, introducing them to Lighthouse. We really appreciate your support and hope you had a wonderful time because we had a great time putting this event on for you all!

The Little Ones are Learning About Beach Activites and Sea Life

We are currently exploring a range of sea life and beach activities with the children.

Ranging from a variety of books available for story times to constructing a big boat in the block area.

The boat building went on to developing some great balancing skills with walking the plank with a one eyed pirate and some eager shipmates.

What would imagination play be without a fairy princess and a dragon to join the “walking the plank” play.

Lots of giggles and amazing cooperation developed between the Toddlers and the Preschoolers during these activities.
