Our New School Space is Complete

We are thrilled that the hard work on building up our new extension to School space for our pre-schoolers is paying off!

A big thank you to our electrician, teachers, our new cook Jackie and the special helpers who have all worked tirelessly over the weekend.

This special room will be dedicated for use by our extension children every morning (4 years and above) to prepare them for school and build on their literacy, numeracy, leadership, confidence, social skills and a host of other important school readiness including the most important of all – to ignite their curiosity and love of learning!

Lighthouse has a strong focus on education and the overall well-being of our children, the Extension to School program is a proud tradition of all Lighthouse centres.

The Extension to School program will be further developed, fine-tuned over the next couple of months, and it will be head up by our new teacher Aaron Mitchell (who is both Early Childhood and Primary trained and qualified), and receive full support from our management team and local primary schools. Keep an eye on this space to see how quickly this room evolves!

We would also love to have your (our parents’) feedback on this project and hear your aspirations for your children’s learning. Please do stop and chat to us about this if you have a minute or two.

The Mission to the Auckland City Mission

Today some of the children went on an adventure to the Auckland City Mission to drop off all the food we have been collecting over the past few weeks.

The children were very excited as we embarked on a little mission of our own.

The car ride was filled with smiles as the children sang “the wheels on the bus..” and pointed out the Sky Tower and other landmarks as we travelled across the harbour bridge.

Upon arrival we were greeted by one of the lovely volunteers and each child helped to carry in a bag of food to donate. mission7 mission6 mission 55 mission 4

We then spent time talking about the importance of giving and helping others, and we even got a peak at some of Santa’s helpers in the present room! We ended the excursion with a light snack before venturing back to our learning centre.

mission 8

Though this was a only a little trip, it taught the children a very big and meaningful lesson about giving and caring for others, especially around this time of year. On this note we would like to say a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our team at Lighthouse, our offices will still be open but this is our last Facebook post for the year. We do however look forward to sharing many more adventures and updates with you here in 2016!

The children put a lot of effort into the concert and it was adorable to see how their faces lit up when they found their parents in the audience!

There was an abundance of smiles and holiday cheer as the little ones sang and danced, especially when Santa Claus appeared with gifts for every child!

After the concert it was time for some tasty nibbles while everyone spent time talking with family and friends.
