Children’s Day 2016

WOW! Children’s Day 2016 was our third Children’s Day and we think it was our biggest and best yet. The event took place over two days, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April at the ASB Showgrounds, and to see you all having such a great time with your families showed us that we accomplished all that we intended to.

On both days, the atmosphere was overflowing with joy and happiness. Families were lining up an hour prior to the event starting and once we opened those doors, there was nothing quite like witnessing the gasps of excitement and wide eyes of the children as they entered Children’s Day and were overwhelmed with where to begin.

IMG_3930

The happiness was infectious. There was an abundance of things to do, many of the families headed straight for the free candy floss and popcorn because let’s be honest, you can’t really go past it.

IMG_3951

In terms of entertainment, Children’s Day had performances from a magician, various dancing schools, lion dancing, and Mainly Music were doing regular music sessions.

We even had a visit from the ever popular Sid from Ice Age who was giving out plenty of cuddles and high-fives.

IMG_3637

The petting zoo was (as always) a favourite among the littles ones. As they patted, nuzzled and feed the little animals.

IMG_3259

From the bouncy castles and mini jeeps, to the ferris wheel and giant inflatable slides, AND all the rides in between – there certainly wasn’t a shortage in attractions.

Children even had the chance to decorate their own cookies with a little help from Elsa and Auna from Frozen.

Among the entertainment for parents was of course the variety of stalls Children’s Day facilitated, majority of which had special deals exclusive for Children’s Day event attendees.

There were delectable treats, a huge range of toys, resources, and children wear. Almost anything child-related you could think of was available at the stalls at Children’s Day.

There was also free face-painting which allowed the children to run wild with their imaginations!

Sharing the Love

On Thursday 11th of February, our Lighthouse little ones were dressed in red and pink as we embarked on a very special Valentines trip to visit Marron Downs rest home. We entered the rest home as a sea of red and pink and handed out our Valentines treats.

DSC01923

The children had prepared delicious cookies with love-hearts drawn on them with red icing. Everyone was licking their lips when these tasty cookies caught their eyes!

Our children also made creative cards by cutting out red and pink love-hearts and using lots of glitter. The cookies and cards paired with the children’s adorable smiles and bubbly personalities stole the hearts of everyone there!

This was a wonderful way of celebrating Valentine’s Day this year for both the children and everyone in the rest home. We know how much our children make us smile and it was lovely to see how contagious their smiles were at Marron Downs rest home smile too.

Our Wonderful Christmas Concert!

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our Christmas Celebration on Friday 11th December. It was a wonderful morning filled with joy and laughter and the children loved seeing all their parents there in the audience as well as receiving a visit from Santa Claus!

IMG_9006

Lots of preparations went into the concert and the little ones worked very hard on practicing for the day. Every single child did a fantastic job and we couldn’t be prouder!

The preschool was decorated with plenty of Christmas cheer which created a joyful atmosphere that the children adored.

We had Snoopy and a snowy Christmas tree painted upon the windows.

IMG_9051

Balloons and hand-made Christmas trees were hung above the rooms.

IMG_8885

Our outside area was also twinkling with tinsel and bells!

IMG_8859

There was certainly no shortage of Christmas spirit and decorations no matter where you looked!

IMG_8869

The performance was split into three age groups. We had the 4 year olds singing ‘Away in a Manger’ in the setting of the nativity scene. IMG_8899

We had Mary, Joseph, the Three Wise Men, Angels, Animals and of course Baby Jesus.

IMG_8897

The three year olds were very festive as they were appointed Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer as their special Christmas performance. They had gorgeous little handmade antlers made with their own wee hand prints!

IMG_8902

The two year olds and babies sang ‘I’m a Little Star’ and what a beautiful job they did! After all the performances we had a visit from a very special person, Santa Claus himself came to our Lighthouse Preschool!

IMG_8939 IMG_8970 IMG_9015

The children were in absolute awe as they were each gifted a present.

IMG_8997 IMG_8987 IMG_8957

There were endless smiles, giggles, and gasps of excitement!

IMG_8956 IMG_8947

The day was commenced with a delicious assortment of morning tea for the parents and children to enjoy.

IMG_8867IMG_9040

It was a wonderful morning for everyone involved and the children had a fantastic time performing for you all. Thank you to all the parents who attended, the children were very excited to share their efforts with you. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Lighthouse at-home.

The Benefits of Baking

At Lighthouse Preschool, we do a variety of baking with the children from pikelets and biscuits to muffins and scones! We absolutely love seeing how much fun the little ones have when we do baking and how proud they are with the end result! It puts a smile on their wee faces and it has many benefits on top of being fun and delicious. When we are baking with the little ones we aren’t just making food, we are teaching them how to make connections among and across multiple disciplines.

pikelet 2

Baking promotes their well-being by encouraging them to help in preparing food for themselves and others.

pikelet 1

It’s a fun way to introduce basic maths in terms of counting, time and measurement.

pikelet 3It encourages turn taking skills, responsibility, and increases their knowledge of baking.

6Baking is also fantastic for understanding processes, enhancing communication, spelling, reading, and building confidence!  The fresh and healthy baking that the children make and devour really does have many benefits and is a great way of teaching while having fun!

If you want your child to be in a fun and high quality learning environment that supports and nurtures your little one, call us on 09-535 3095 to enquire about enrollment.
