Philosophy -Tuis (0 to 2.5 years)

Children learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing and hearing.

In our Tui room we provide a nurturing, intimate and respectful environment allowing our babies and toddlers many opportunities to explore and create relationships with the people and the world around them.

Our core value is respect and our daily programme ensures we work with and alongside the children at their own pace and moving forward with them as they are ready.

We believe that children learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing and hearing and we offer children space and time to explore and discover their environment.

In Tuis we encourage child initiated learning through play and structured experiences. Teachers observe a child’s interest and disposition, and develop learning opportunities on these interests. Each day different learning opportunities are available including sensory centred play, art, music, dance and interacting with the outdoors. The Lighthouse encourages independence and acknowledges individual learning styles of each child. If a child has a sibling in the older age group, with discussion with parents, there are opportunities during the day for children to spend time together.
